Frederic E. Mohs 


Fred Mohs is a 1964 graduate of the University of Wisconsin law school. In 1964, he joined Peterson, Sutherland, Axley & Brynelson. In 1969, he joined Schlotthauer, Johnson & Mohs and in 1979, formed Mohs, MacDonald & Widder. 

Since 1958 he has been active in the development and ownership of properties in Madison and in other cities.  Fred has been actively involved in local, state and national business and political matters throughout his career. He has served as a Director of Placon Corporation, Madison Gas and Electric Company and Hopkins Agricultural Chemical Company.  

He has served on the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, has been a member of the University of Wisconsin Hospital Authority Board, and has served on the Board of Directors of the University of Wisconsin Research Park. Fred was a founding Board Member of the Central Madison Council and Downtown Madison Inc., as well as the Capitol Neighborhoods Association, all focused on downtown Madison where he resides.  

Fred has served on the Board of Directors for the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation, and has been the Chairman or a Board Member of the Dane County Public Affairs Council, the Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Conference, the City/County Tax Force on the Chronically Mentally Ill, the Special Needs Advisory Council of the Madison Area Technical College, the Wisconsin Apartment Association, the State of Wisconsin Elections Board, the Frank Lloyd Wright Monona Terrace Commission, the City of Madison Commission on Race, the Chazen Art Museum Art Council Board, and was President of the Madison Symphony Orchestra.  

Fred is a former Member of the Madison Alcohol License Review Commission, the State of Wisconsin Legislative Council Commission on Tax Exemptions for Residential Property, the State of Wisconsin Legislative Council on Affirmative Action and serves on the Advisory Board of the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute.  

Fred is a Member of the Reagan Round Table, Simi Valley, California and the Wisconsin Subcommittee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. 

Fred was a founder and Co-Owner of Fox Channel 47 in Madison and is a current Co-Owner of Velcor Leasing Corporation and Integrated Communication Services.  

Fred is listed in Who’s Who in America and was previously listed in Best Lawyers in America.
